General Information

  • Awards are intended to fund specific expenses related to student research projects leading to advanced degrees.
  • Awards are competitive and based upon project merit and qualification of the applicant.
  • Applicants must describe what the project is; why the research is important, and how it is to be done.
  • An estimate of expenses for the project must be included in the budget section of application.
  • Grant recipients are required to provide, by April 30 following the calendar year in which they are awarded/dispersed, a summarized accounting of how the funds were spent. This should include a suitable progress report followed by a final abstract when the project is complete.
  • If the funds have not been used by April 30 of the following year, the grant recipient should request permission for an extension and submit a progress report.
  • A final abstract is required when the project is complete.
  • Applicants requesting financial support from the Alberto Terrones L. Fund for non-research expenses must include a statement describing the need and purpose of such request.
  • Applications may be submitted for any one of the awards, but will be considered for all awards.
  • Applicants who apply for and are awarded a current calendar year GSF Grant are also eligible to apply for the current calendar year SRG.
