General Information
- Awards are intended to fund specific expenses related to student research projects leading to advanced degrees.
- Awards are competitive and based upon project merit and qualification of the applicant.
- Applicants must describe what the project is; why the research is important, and how it is to be done.
- An estimate of expenses for the project must be included in the budget section of application.
- Grant recipients are required to provide, by April 30 following the calendar year in which they are awarded/dispersed, a summarized accounting of how the funds were spent. This should include a suitable progress report followed by a final abstract when the project is complete.
- If the funds have not been used by April 30 of the following year, the grant recipient should request permission for an extension and submit a progress report.
- A final abstract is required when the project is complete.
- Applicants requesting financial support from the Alberto Terrones L. Fund for non-research expenses must include a statement describing the need and purpose of such request.
- Applications may be submitted for any one of the awards, but will be considered for all awards.
- Applicants who apply for and are awarded a current calendar year GSF Grant are also eligible to apply for the current calendar year SRG.
How to Apply
Submissions should summarize the topic, objectives, plans, and budget for the proposed research and the background of the applicant. Applicants should adequately explain their proposals, provide informative documentation, and present the proposals under their own name.
- Applicant Form Submission: Complete the application online using the link below. A copy of your submission will be sent to the email provided in the application.
- Advisor Appraisal: Advisor appraisal of the proposed research is required, and an Advisor Appraisal form must be completed by a faculty member familiar with the applicant's qualifications and the significance of the proposed research. It is the applicant’s responsibility to their completed Student Research Grant application to the Advisor for review prior to their completing the Advisor Appraisal Form. The Advisor Appraisal form should be completed online; the student should provide the advisor with a link to this form. By submitting the Appraisal Form, the advisor verifies that the research project has academic advice and acceptance and that the advisor agrees to make reasonable effort to oversee proper use of granted funds. To maintain confidentiality, the completed appraisal should not be shared with the applicant.
