Brian J. Skinner Award recipient for 2024
Federico is an independent consultant specializing in the geology and geochemistry of magmatic and hydrothermal processes, with a focus on porphyry deposits. He integrates classic hand-lens observations and Anaconda-style mapping with trace element geochemistry, spectroscopy, and other analytical techniques. Federico provides continued support to First Quantum Minerals and services to companies like Rio Tinto, Fortescue, and several juniors. In these roles, he has worked on exploration projects of varied geology and age across more than 20 countries and has provided training to multiple global exploration teams. His education includes the University of the Republic (UDELAR), Uruguay (B.S.), and Oregon State University, USA (M.S. and Ph.D.). Federico is the 2024 recipient of the Society of Economic Geologists (SEG) Brian J. Skinner Award.
Université Laval
Waldemar Lindgren Award recipient for 2024
Bertrand is professor of metallogeny in the Department of Geology and Geological Engineering at Université Laval. His work focuses on the physicochemical processes behind deposits of critical and strategic metals (REE, graphite, copper) and gold, as well as the development of new exploration methods. Now, his work is mostly located in various regions of the Québec province. Bertrand Rottier received the 2019 Mineralium Deposita Best Paper Award from the Society of Applied Geology (SGA) and the 2024 Waldemar Lindgren Award from the Society of Economic Geologists (SEG) in recognition of his contributions to research in the field of economic geology.
University of Tasmania - CODES
SEG Editor of Economic Geology
David is professor and the director of the Centre for Ore Deposits and Earth Sciences (CODES) at the University of Tasmania. He is an internationally recognized leader in economic geology, having published 176 internationally circulated peer-reviewed papers and book chapters across numerous deposit types, including porphyry Cu-Mo, epithermal precious metal, and sediment-hosted Zn-Pb deposits. His research integrates field work, chemical modeling, mineralogy, fluid inclusions, isotopic studies, and microanalytical methods.
He has a long history of research management, participation, and interaction with industry partners, as well as experience in knowledge transfer from academia to industry and student supervision. David has made many contributions to the Society of Economic Geologists, including his current position as editor of Economic Geology.
